Artist Spotlight: Bishop Nehru, Children of the Night & F. Stokes

04/16/2013 - 6:03pm

Sean Price is performing at Glasslands (289 Kent Ave., Brooklyn) TONIGHT! Tickets are only $3.00 at the doors which open at 8pm. It's also just been announced that Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire will be opening. Awhile ago we did a spotlight on eXquire, and since there are quite a few up and coming MC's outta NYC opening for this show, I thought it would only make sense to do an artist spotlight on them. So check out music from Bishop Nehru, Children of the Night, and F. Stokes below and if you're in BK hope to see you tonight at the show.

Bishop Nehru:
Bishop Nehru is a breath of fresh air. Even though the 16 year old rapper was born after most classic albums in the 90's had been released he still embodies the Golden Era sound and his latest mixtape, Nehruvia, is proof of that. A lot of recent MC's try to recapture that 90's sound and fall flat, Bishop executes it well and almost effortlessly. On Nehruvia he rhymes over classic beats from MF Doom, J Dilla, Madlib and Preemo but he sounds best over young producer Ghost McGrady's sampled heavy beats, one of which you can check below:

Children of the Night:
Had to keep an eye out for World's Fair since Complex called them the new version of the Boot Camp Clik except they're repping Queens instead of BK. Children of the Night is the main group out of World's Fair. They have been part of the new resurgence of hip-hop in NYC as they, especially frontman Remy Banks, have collabed with Flatbush Zombies, A$AP Mob, Bodega Bamz etc. Check a video they dropped last year, "Kids from Queens," which is off their tape Queens... RevisitedDef need more MC's outta Queens so I like how they're reppin' hard, and holding their own.

F. Stokes:
Chicago-born / Madison raised / NYC living rapper F. Stokes rounds out the openers. He even calls Paris his third home, all the different cities might be why F. Stokes is the well rounded and intelligent MC that he is. But his small town of Madison is what he reps the most and it inspired the music video below which is a great concept and needs more views!
